THE JES Choir and the NUI Galway Medical School Orchestra join forces with Frankie Gavin and Cora and Breda Smyth for a major concert on the university campus.

FOR THE first time in Ireland, JS Bach’s epic choral masterpiece, the St Matthew Passion, will be performed and Galway’s St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church is the venue.

Four regional heats of the competition — each featuring five choirs — will be aired on successive Sundays beginning on Sunday October 18 at 7.30pm on RTÉ One in a series presented by Anne Cassin. The Mayo choir can be seen performing on Sunday November 8.
